Its Book Fair Time
Eura Brown Virtual Book Fair
Time Machine : Books Can Take You Anywhere
The time has come for our Fall Book Fair. As with everything else, it will look and feel much different this year. Due to restrictions on visitors in the building and social distancing guidelines associated with COVID-19, our book fair will be completely virtual. I plan to make this special week as much fun as possible here in the school for our students, but I will need your help at home with the shopping!
First things first, you will need a scholastic account in order to shop. Some of you may already have one, but if you do not please create one by going to Scholastic and clicking on the option to create an account.
Second important tasks to remember is ALWAYS use the link below for shopping. There are many different ways to shop scholastic, but for our Book Fair and for our library to receive the profit we MUST use this specific link.
Teacher Wish Lists – Teachers will create wish list and those will be posted here. While shopping, look for those titles and select the ones you would like to gift to the teacher. The books will ship directly to your home. Once they are received, you can hand deliver your gift directly to your teacher.
Raffle Entry – I will be giving away a basket of books to 2 students. In order to have your name entered into the raffle, you must print off or take a picture of your shopping receipt and send to me. For every book you purchase, you will get your name entered into the drawing. I’ll draw one name from K-2 students and one name from 3-5 students. I will draw names on November 20th.
Time Travel Days (Dress Up) – There will be specific days scheduled throughout our virtual fair weeks for the students to dress up as we travel through time. I will post these days and themes in the coming week so that you can begin preparing. I will also have a few photo booths around the school so that students can have their picture taken if they’d like. These will be free of charge and just a way to get students excited about reading and traveling through time by using a book as your means of transportation.
The fair will run for 2 weeks, November 5th -18th. FREE standard shipping on book-only purchases over $25. All orders will ship directly to your home. The library will receive 25% of our total sales. Our goal this fair is to sell 1,541 books. Let’s work hard to reach our goal.
You Are Back!!!
Hello 2020-2021 school year! What a crazy way to begin our year. It seemed so strange the first few weeks of school without students in the halls with huge smiles on their faces!!! However, I am very thankful that most of you are all back in the building with us now.
Now that we are back, how is library going to work? That’s a great question!!! For the time, students are still not allowed to travel to other rooms in the building as a class so we will not be checking in and out like we typically have in the past. I will be coming to your classrooms and delivering book bins full of our books for you to enjoy while at school. 3-5 will be allowed to place holds on specific books and I will deliver those as well. I am still going to encourage you to use MyOn and other digital libraries that are available. I am still adding activities to my library lessons page just as I did last school year when we dismissed in March. You can find them by clicking on this link, http://ebes.gcs.k12.al.us/library/library-lessons/ , or going directly to the webpage itself. All activities are optional and to be completed at your own convenience. Please feel free to share some of your work with me that you complete throughout our remote learning time. You can send it to me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or tag me on our library Instagram account using @jlblib.
I will also be available to help you troubleshoot technical problems. If you need assistance, please click here to fill out a tech assistance form. I will contact you and hopefully get your problems resolved as quickly as possible.
myON Login Helpful Information
The City of Gadsden has purchased a subscription for our school system for myON, an online library/reading resource. Each student has a login to use that gives them access to almost 6,000 books. That simply is an incredible resource for our students. There are no extra parent subscriptions required, like other online reading resources that are available. Students will be given suggested titles based off of an interest inventory they will complete on their very first log in. They will also complete, periodically, short assessments that test their reading level. This will adjust the recommended titles to those that are best suited for your reader. There are NO grades attached to this reading… just a resource that allows you to watch your child’s reading progression over a period of time.
You can access this by logging into Clever and using your child’s district assigned google username and password. If your child has trouble remembering that username and password, feel free to contact Mrs. Brewer for the information. Below you will find a helpful instruction sheet that will take you step by step on how to log in.
