Introducing myON

The City of Gadsden has purchased a subscription for our school system for myON, an online library/reading resource. Each student has a login to use that gives them access to almost 6,000 books. That is simyON Reading Subscription Info.mply an incredible resource for our students. There are no extra parent subscriptions required, like other online reading resources that are available. Students will be given suggested titles based off of an interest inventory they will complete on their very first log in. They will also complete, periodically, short assessments that test their reading level. This will adjust the recommended titles to those that are best suited for your reader. There are NO grades attached to this reading… just a resource that allows you to watch your child’s reading progression over a period of time. You can access this via the web or if you have an iPad/tablet, you can use the app. Currently, the app is not available on iPhones.

I hope you are as excited as I am! I can’t wait to share this with our students during class next week. Be ready for them to come home excited about myON and ready to show you how it all works. If at anytime you have questions or need help around the site, please contact me and I will be more than happy to assist.

Be a Champion and Read Contest

The Alabama Education Association is pleased to sponsor the seventh annual Be A Champion and Read contest.

K-6 students are challenged to read six reading-level appropriate books to qualify for the Grand Prize: Iron Bowl tickets – one winner for each team – for the student and two guests. Each prize includes sideline passes and pre-game activities.

Eleven schools, one from each Inservice Center Region, with at least 75 percent student participation will be entered to win one of eleven $500 school library grants.

Eleven educators, one from each Inservice Center Region, who decorate bulletin boards, walls, or doors to promote the contest in their school will each be eligible to win $200.

Celebrate Alabama’s championship tradition by participating in AEA’s Be A Champion and Read Contest.  All reading logs with six books listed must be completed and turned in by Oct. 26th. AEA Be a Champion Read Contest Image
