Materials Needed…. Will you help?
The Maker movement in our library is going strong and the students are thoroughly enjoying the opportunities to be creative, work together, and problem solve. In order to build our program and continue to provide new and unique ways for students to create, we need your help. If you have any of the supplies listed below and would like to donate, it would help tremendously. You can call or email Mrs. Brewer or just drop supplies off in the front office. As always, we appreciate your support and look forward to more Maker fun in the second semester!
Plastic Bags – Walmart/Target/Winn Dixie/Publix etc…
Cloth – old clothing/fabric samples/etc…
Cardboard – any size/any color
Paper Towel and Tissue cores (the cardboard cylinder they are wrapped around)
***If anyone has a Red Wagon that you would allow to be used for a couple of weeks and then returned… that would be very helpful also! Several are needed to complete a project in February. These will not be dismantled or damaged in any way.
New AR Rewards and Top 20
Congratulations to those students that earned their spot in the 2nd nine week period Top 20. You all worked really hard and accomplished your goal! Keep up the hard work as we push toward the end of the school year.
We have a new AR Reward for the new semester! All students that work hard to meet their AR goals for the next two nine week periods are in for a treat! Teachers will set student goals for points and comprehension each nine week period. Those students that meet those requirements for the 3rd and 4th nine week periods will be rewarded in a special way! Stay tuned for more details and work hard to meet those goals!
Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club
It’s that time again! Let’s get the reading fun started. Thanks to the Six Flags Read to Succeed program, our students have the opportunity to earn a Free ticket to Six Flags over Georgia. The requirements are as follows:
- Log six hours of reading on their reading logs.
- A parent signs the log to certify their child read for six hours.
- Return the reading log with parent signature to Mrs. Brewer no later than February 22, 2019.
It’s that easy! Once you turn in the reading log, I will register your hard work and your ticket will arrive before the end of the year. You can find the parent information letter and the reading log below. If you have any other questions, feel free to call or email Mrs. Brewer.
DINO-MITE Book Fair
Our Scholastic Spring Book Fair will come romping and stomping into our school on March 1st! Keep your eyes and ears open for more information and ways to volunteer.
As always, I look forward to seeing our library come alive while our students shop for their favorite books!
myON Login Helpful Information
The City of Gadsden has purchased a subscription for our school system for myON, an online library/reading resource. Each student has a login to use that gives them access to almost 6,000 books. That simply is an incredible resource for our students. There are no extra parent subscriptions required, like other online reading resources that are available. Students will be given suggested titles based off of an interest inventory they will complete on their very first log in. They will also complete, periodically, short assessments that test their reading level. This will adjust the recommended titles to those that are best suited for your reader. There are NO grades attached to this reading… just a resource that allows you to watch your child’s reading progression over a period of time.
You can access this by logging into Clever and using your child’s district assigned google username and password. If your child has trouble remembering that username and password, feel free to contact Mrs. Brewer for the information. Below you will find a helpful instruction sheet that will take you step by step on how to log in.
